Q: Does a Troop 55 sanctioned virtual campout count toward the camping requirements in Tenderfoot 1B, Second Class 1A, and First Class 1A?
A: Yes. However, camping must occur outdoors (Camping indoors can only count it as a non-outdoor, non-camping troop/patrol activity for Second Class 1A and First Class 1A). Be sure to document the tent setup with photo or video, and connect to any video conferences associated with the campout.
Q: Do Troop 55 sanctioned virtual campouts count toward Order of the Arrow camping night requirements?
A: Yes. Be sure to document your camping with photo or video and connect to any video conferences associated with the campout. Full details from OA can be found here.
Q: Do Troop 55 sanctioned virtual campouts count towards Camping Merit Badge camping night requirements?
A: Maybe. There has been no official relief from BSA concerning the requirement, so the individual merit badge counselor should be consulted. In short, do not rely on virtual campout nights counting towards Camping MD until confirming with your Merit Badge counselor.
Q: Can I satisfy the cooking requirements in Tenderfoot 2A, Tenderfoot 2B, Second Class 2E, and First Class (FC-2A, FC-2B, FC-2C, FC-2D, FC-2E)?
A: Yes. BSA has announced this allowed variation. “During the same day as your virtual campout . . . ” Therefore you must participate in the Virtual Campout (Setting up a tent, attending the virtual opening ceremonies, campfire, and Scout’s Own) while doing the cooking for you family. You do not need to cook outdoors. Be sure to document your cooking with photo or video and contact your assigned PASM before, during, and after to confirm your completion of the requirements.
Q: Can I particpate in the FCT Virtual Campouts if I am not in an FCT Patrol?
A: Yes. If you are in a Middle School Patrol contact Mr. Thompson (tct@troop55htx.com) and he will temporarily assign you to a FCT Patrol for the weekend.
