Swimming Merit Badge 2023

We will be hosting swimming merit badge classes on June 3rd and some other potential dates during the summer.  Currently each class is open to 8 scouts but there will be a waitlist in case we expand the class sizes or add more classes.  Mr. Thomas Thompson will be the merit badge counselor.

Prerequisites:

  • Have already passed the BSA Swimmer test as ’Swimmer’.  We will not be testing at this time.
  • This class is ONLY for competent swimmers comfortable in deep water ready to complete the requirements (look them up!). We cannot teach swimming at this event. You must be able to swim strongly using freestyle, breast stroke, racing backstroke (reverse crawl), SIDE STROKE, and elementary backstroke.  If you don’t swim yet but want to learn, let us know. We are happy to help you find lessons.
  • Have read the Swimming MB pamphlet, cover to cover, prior to first meeting. Available here for instant download – https://www.scoutshop.org/mbp-swimming-ebook-656098.html

The classes will take place at the Evergreen Park Pool (4500 Evergreen St, Bellaire, TX 77401) and will meet at 8:30am to cover the “classroom” portion of the MB.

You do not need to have your blue card prior to signing up but you do need to have it completed and linked to Mr. Thompson 48hrs before the class or your spot will be opened to someone on the waitlist.
